Hilary Swank dares to bare in backless dress as she attends Broadway show

Is that not a bit drafty? Hilary Swank dares to bare in backless dress as she attends Broadway show
By Leah Simpson

At first glance it would appear she took the casual approach but Hilary Swank had a draughty surprise up her sleeve for the On a Clear Day You Can See Forever red carpet.

The Oscar-winning actress wore a frock which appeared to be a loose fitting burnt orange t-shirt and asymmetric white shirt but all was not what it seemed.

While most stars chose not to remove their coats in the extremely cold New York outdoors, Hilary was determined to flaunt her daring outfit design.

Not what it seems: Hilary Swank stepped out in what appeared to be a covered up ensemble but she was actually wearing a backless dress

The star whipped off her wrap-over black covering to reveal an almost backless dress.

With freshly blown mousy locks, Swank looked well put together as she accessoried the look with charm-style gold necklace, black clutch and peeptoe shoes.

All about the fashion: But the actress soon whipped off her defense against
the cold to show off her ensemble at the St. James Theatre

Hilary didn’t go braless for the look though as the transparent lining of her underwear could clearly been seen on her lower back.

The 37-year-old joined Anjelica Huston, Will & Grace actress Debra Messing, American Idol contestant Katherine McPhee and Mariska Hargitay at St James Theatre for the performance starring Harry Connick Jr.

But it seems her chic clothes are the only hit on her hands at the moment.

Trim and toned: Hilary showed off her great shape with the revealing dress

Her latest movie, New Years Eve, has performed below expectations as ticket sales fell to their lowest level in three years.

It raked in just $13.7 million at North American cinemas, despite costing $56 million to make as it featured A-listers such as Halle Berry, Robert DeNiro and Zac Efron.

Executives even tried to attract a crossover audience by giving hair metal favourite Jon Bon Jovi a role in the flick, which features several different holiday-themed romantic vignettes.

This is staying on: Anjelica Huston stayed firmly attached to her coat and scarf to watch Harry Connick, Jr's performance

Smart ladies: Mariska Hargitay and Will & Grace star Debra Messing
still looked glamorous in chic coats

However it failed to pay off, perhaps due to the fact the Garry Marshall helmed movie was a loose sequel to Valentines Day, which was critically derided despite being a box office hit which earned $56.3 million on its debut weekend.

The bell tolls for New Year: The romance has been described as a high budget Love Boat

New Year's Eve fared even worse with critics, holding just a seven per cent rating on review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes.

Idolize me: American Idol singer Katherine McPhee had enviable style in a short fur jacket
