The Pippa effect? I don't get it! Alice Temperley is unfazed as she is named Designer of the Year in U.S. awards ceremony

Alice Temperley has officially become the darling of the USA after being named Designer of the Year at the 2011 Hollywood Style Awards last night.

The designer, who dressed Pippa Middleton for the evening reception of the Royal Wedding and has dressed both Kate Middleton and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall in the past, was presented the award by actress Alice Eve at the climax of a long list of honours.

Temperley was present to collect the prize, which comes as evidence of her burgeoning popularity Stateside.

If any further evidence of Temperley's U.S. success were needed, it came in the shape of Bergdorf Goodman's sales figures.

Just 24 hours after its unveiling atht luxury department store in New York, the designer's Temperley London's autumn/winter 2011 collection was already ranking as Bergdorf's biggest seller of the week, outstripping sales for any homegrown U.S. talent.

But while her quintessentially British brand makes waves across the globe (numerous star-studded parties have been held to fete the designer this week, one by actress Emma Roberts), Alice Temperley herself remains unruffled by the fuss and furore.

When asked at a New York party this week how she managed to secure the ultimate guest at her London fashion show (Pippa Middleton arrived to sit front row, winning Temperley endless headlines and almost overshadowing the collection), Temperley is the mistress of understatement.

'She was in the store and I was finding her something for something and I just said, ‘We’ve got a show on Sunday, do you wanna come?’ and she was like, ‘Yeah,’ so I said, ‘Cool, see you on Sunday,’" she told Fashionista.com in an interview.

Both Peaches Geldof, and Mischa Barton, pictured at a Temperley London fashion show in 2009, are huge fans of the brand

'I had no idea how much interest that would cause, I mean I don’t get it. I’m not fazed by any of that stuff…like if I was really excited about that, that would be so wrong to what my genetic makeup is.

'I’m not very excited by things like that; I love her as an individual and it’s mint she comes to the show, but to try and think anything above that would be very strange.'

Regardless, it can have done Temperley no harm to be championed in such a public way by the Middletons. Indeed, the raft of other celebrities who have endorsed the brand have firmly placed Temperley at one of the go-to labels of the moment.

The award marks a long year of accolades and achievements, which aside from seeing the Duchess of Cambridge and sister Pippa wearing her designs, has borne out a collaboration with Filofax and the launch of her first book, True British.
